The Skull Soldier

Title: The Skull Soldier
Genre: Superhero, Action, Sci-Fi

Explaining the Skull Soldier’s story is simple in relative terms: a man, Narumi, was a part of a program that used a hormone called “Skull”, where certain people (mostly athletes) gain immense strength, with no side affects (basically steroids) and even can heal some wounds. But he wouldn’t have even known about it had his sister not be killed by the people behind the program. So really, he’s out for revenge on the ones involved, and with the powers he received and a bit of help from the one who saved his life, he creates the persona of Skull Soldier and attempts to discover who really killed his sister.

DaS Anime Entertainment Review

By , Filed in: Misc. Reviews

Reviewing an anime is one thing, but reviewing an anime review show is…what do you expect? Another thing. And sincerely, I’d have to say that I have zero experience concerning the latter. Until now, watching an anime review show has never even crossed my bishonen-saturated mind, I being the YouTube fanatic that I am. Neon Alley Review

Neon Alley Viz Media

Viz Media recently released Neon Alley, a 24/7 anime channel exclusively on the PS3. I’d been interested in the service since I heard about it at Anime Expo last July. It’s been a few weeks since it went live, and the service holds up well so far.

Note: Membership trial was provided by Viz Media. The pictures in this post were photos I took with my digital camera of my TV to show how the channel appears. All copyright goes to the respective owners for the shows and advertising pictured. Continue Reading »

Novel Review: 1Q84

By , Filed in: Misc. Reviews

1Q84Title: 1Q84
Author: Haruki Murakami
Genre: Alternate History, Parallel Worlds
Publisher: Shinchosha (JP), Knopf (U.S.)
Translation: Jay Rubin, Phillip Gabriel

So on a whim a few months ago I decided to purchase Haruki Murakami’s 1Q84. Murakami’s a name thrown about in the writing world, most notably linked to some show directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara called Mawaru Penguindrum. I purchased it at Kinokuniya, in hardcover, which basically has all three volumes of the work, but it was pretty expensive. But the fact that I’m still reading it even after I finished it not too long ago probably means I really enjoyed the novel. And while it will take a while to read, this is a work you shouldn’t hesitate to pick up.

Book Review: Guin Saga Vol 1-5

By , Filed in: Misc. Reviews

A very unusual review as it’s not a look at an anime or a manga, but rather a very heralded novel series in Japan: Guin Saga. What is Guin Saga, you ask? Well, if you’ve watched the anime (which I haven’t yet), then you already know a bit about some dude with the head of a Leopard. If none of you have heard of the anime, then be prepared to learn about one of the founding works of fantasy by one of Japan’s greatest writers.
